In 1988, National Homebrew Day was announced before Congress. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May.

For Hogtown, Big Brew will be celebrated on Saturday May 2, 2026 and will be hosted at the home of Bill and BeBe Edwards, 18310 SE 75 St, Micanopy, FL 32667 (view map)

Hogtown members in good standing are eligible for a brewing stipend of $15/2.5-gal, $30/5-gal or $60/10-gal. One criteria for being eligible is that you must brew one of the recipes below on-site with the club on the day of Big Brew.

Big Brew Recipes

• Monk’s Ration Trappist-Style Single
• George and Aaron’s Pre-Prohibition Porter
• Dark Cellar Imperial Stout
• Amber Mexican Lager (3rd Place BOS Winner by Allen Kent)
• Optionally, you can also brew any other recipe you want, as long as you brew it onsite at the Big Brew event.

Brew Day Notes:
• Arrive any time after 9:00 a.m.
• Electric service available for pumps, drills, etc. (please bring an extension cord)
• Hose connections available.
• Bring homebrew/commercial samples to share.
• Optional to bring food for potluck
